I just stumbled upon this…a bit late it seems. A Russian team is attempting a winter climb of K2 (arguably the hardest of the seven summits). The normal climbing season, of course, is outside of the winter. Even with that, temperatures and weather conditions are in the extreme on K2. Doing it in winter just makes it that much worse.
This is there English website- it looks as if despite one member of the team having some issues with frostbite, they’ve made it as high as Camp Two (or just above it). But not surprisingly, the weather has continued to hamper their progress.
There are great photos on the site, you should definitely check it out.
