Tragedy on Mt. Manaslu

Mt. Manaslu @ 26,759 feet.

An avalanche caused by a falling serac killed at least 9 climbers, with another 6 still missing, on Mt. Manaslu two days ago. Manaslu is the 8th highest peak in the world and is one of the higher points in the Himalayas.

Per the reports, the avalanche hit around 4am while the climbers were sleeping at Camp 2 at around 7,000 meters. American Glen Plake survived the avalanche, his story is quite the read…this is a pretty good article with his story.

Altitude Junkies, a well known expedition outfit, had a group on the mountain. Their dispatches from beginning to end, with great photos, are well worth the look. See it here.
